Gatwick Airport has a long history of aviation that dates back to 1930s when an Avro 504 (World War I biplane) was kept there for a while.

Gatwick Airport is the 6th busiest international airport in the UK followed by busiest single runway airport (900 aircraft movements). It is also being honored as the 2nd largest airport in the UK. It currently operates on two terminals, handling 70 airlines to more than 200 destinations. Approximately 44 million passengers travel from Gatwick Airport per year.

1. The Beehive

Used for aviation in 1928 – Gatwick Airport’s first operational terminal was finalized in 1935 for flights. Interestingly, most of the buildings and boundary of the airport was circular for which it was nicknamed as ‘The Beehive’. In fact, most of the necessary functions were monitored under one building.

Gatwick Airport was also known to be the first airport to implement one-structure execution airport in Europe. Sadly, we no longer have the sight to Beehive as it obsoleted after the 50s.

Gatwick Airport has the capacity to accommodate 27,000 cars at a time. However, on August 16th, 2003, 134,527 passengers asked for a parking space. This is was huge, considering the airport could not manage this amount of passengers as they simply did not have enough space.
